A general view of economic problems; theories of supply and demand; elasticity, marginal analysis of consumer and firm's behaviour; factor markets; pricing in competitive and non-competitive markets.

ECON 102 Introduction to Economics II (303)
Determination of national income; changes in output and employment; money, banking system; problems of inflation and unemployment; growth and development; international trade.

ECON 205 Microeconomics (303)
Theory of consumer behaviour, theory of production and cost, pricing in competitive markets, various market structures; theory of general equlibrium and economic welfare.

ECON206 Macroeconomics (303)
An overview of macroeconomic issues, national income accounting, classical and modern theories of income determination, employment, unemployment, interest rates, business fluctuations, monetary and fiscal policies, international economic issues.

ECON 203 Public Finance (303)
The need for government intervention, analysis of public goods, issues related to income distribution, central governments and local administrations, budget systems, cost-benefit analysis, structure of expenditures and public revenues.

A survey of world economic history covering feudal societies, transformation to market oriented societies, centralised societies, formation of integration and globalisation.

ECON 301 Theory of International Economics (303)
The pure theory of international trade; the classical and neoclassical theories of foreign trade, terms of trade, foreign trade multiplier; theories and analysis of the balance of payments.

ECON 302 International Economic Policy (303)
International trade policies; free trade versus tariffs and non- tariff barriers; GATT negotiations and exceptions from free trade,WTO.

ECON 303 Research Methods (303)
Introducing the students to the basic elements, foundations, ethics, principles and the aims of scientific research; making them familiar with the theoretical basis of different methodological perspectives and especially the features of qualitative and quantitative research methodologies and their similarities/ differences in terms of aim, design, methods of data collection and analysis; developing an understanding in terms of proper use of data collection methods such as different types of interviewing, study of documents, observation and participant observation and focus groups; making them acquainted with types of sampling, research planning and the stages of the research process, documenting resources and writing a research report. The students are expected to make a practice of what they have learned in the course by class assignments as well as by writing a research proposal on a certain topic as term paper.

ECON 304 History of Economic Thought (303)
A historical survey of the development of economic analysis covering the contributions of mercantalists, physiocrats and classical economists; analysis of the Marxian theory of value and distribution and the theory of production and distribution, the emergence of general equilibrium theory.

ECON 305 Money and Banking (303)
An overview of financial mechanism; analysis of the demand and supply of money; the functioning of money and capital markets; interest rate determination, the roles of financial intermediaries; some references to the Turkish financial institutions and to their practices.

ECON 306 Monetary Policy (303)
An analysis of generalised classical and Keynesian systems; the monetarist approach; the gap analysis; interest rate mechanism and other effects; appraisal of the monetary and fiscal policies; alternative interpretation of the generalizations of the classical system.

ECON 307 Public Sector Economics (303)
The nature and scope of the public sector activities; pricing of public goods; the functioning of state economic enterprises; responsibilities for nationalization and privatization of enterprises; the Turkish experience with public sector economics.

ECON 308 Fiscal Policy (303)
Budgeting techniques and practices; analysis of fiscal measures to realise the goals of allocation, distribution, stabilisation, growth and development; evaluation of the validity of fiscal tools; survey of recent trends in fiscal policy.

ECON 311 Econometrics I (303)
The simple regression model covering the basic assumption, estimation and test of hypothesis; prediction and the problem of choosing; the multiple regression model including estimation, tests, specification, and error analysis.

ECON 312 Econometrics II (303)
Dummy variables; testing structural change, estimating the prediction error variance; the polynomial distributed lag and the geometric distributed lag; autocorrelation and heteroscedasticity; simultaneous equations.

ECON 412 Seminar in Economics (303)
Assigments for reading and research work; class discussions on the progress of research.

ECON 403 Development Economics (303)
The nature of economıc development and development theories; underdevelopment theories; roots of backwardness; unbalanced growth, structural changes.

ECON 407 Turkish Economy (303)
Structure and historical development of Turkish Economy; agriculture, industry and service; role and importance of private and public sectors.

ECON 408 European Union (303)
A survey of the history and evolution of the European Community and Union; the institutions of EU and the decision making process; some references to EU policies; approches to Maastricht Treaty, role and importance of Euro.

ECON 409 International Economic Relations of Turkey (303)
Interdependence in the world economy, the international economy in the twentieth century; opportunities or constraints which arise from relations with other countries; trade, capital flows, migration, foreign exchange mechanisms, foreign rules and policies; the evolution of these relations with respect to Turkey within import substitution and export led growth models; strong emphasis will be given to the role of policy and institutions, both national and international.

ECON 411 Industrial Economics and Technology (3 0 3)
The forces of industrial development, a survey of historical analysis, the economics of technological change and industrial policy in connection with domestic and international perspective.

Definition, method, framework of supply and demand analysis (assumptions, restrictions); equlibrium and stability; analyzing consumer behaviour and decision making; cost theory, optimum factor endowment and choice, linear programming , comparison of different market types.

Contemporary agricultural problems; various models of agricultural development; evaluation of government policies.

ECON 414 Labour Economics (303)
Labour supply and demand conditions; wage determination under different market structures; concepts of employment and unemployment; unions, government intervention, disputes and negotiations.

ECON 416 Financial Markets (303)
An overview of the financial system; financial markets and financial instruments; the structure of interest; financial institutions, financial derivatives.

ECON 417 Transition Economics (303)
The analysis of the economic policies of transition economies (Former ‘‘Socialist Block’’) in close connection with their historical, cultural and political aspects; their economic relations with Turkey; the future impact of the transitional economic policies on these countries and on the world economy.

ECON 418 Turkish Tax System and Tax Reform (303)
Analysis of the Turkish tax system in historical perspective; study of taxes on income, wealth and expenditures; evaluation of the measures for improved tax administration; analysis of cases in tax reform.

ECON 419 Environmental Economics (303)
The effects of economic activity on natural environment; inspection of negative externalities causing damage; responsibilities of individuals and institutions; conservation of the environment as a public good.

ECON 420 Urban Economics (303)
Theoretical aspects of urban spatial structure; concepts of urban land use and planning; economic and social analysis of urban community; study of housing, transportation, health, education and other problems and activities in urban areas.

ECON 421 Business and Society (3 0 3)
The responsibilities of both business and society and how they interact with each other; analysis of economic, social and managerial practies and experiments that are typical of Turkish business life and society; social issues, public policies and ethical problems that arise in business.

ECON 422 International Monetary System (303)
The economics of international transaction; balance of payments, the exchange rates and economic adjustments; the organisation of international financial system;gold standard Bretton Woods, convertible currency system; floating rates, managed floating, the economics of monetary integration, currency crises, implications of Euro for EU and non-EU countries.

ECON 423 Time Series Econometrics (3 0 3)
Stationary time-series models, modeling volatility, models with trend, multi-equation time-series models, cointegration and error-correction models and non-linear time-series.

ECON 428 Economics of Innovation and Knowledge (3 0 3)
Innovation and Knowledge as two key dimensions of modern economic growth and on how they interact; economic definition of knowledge and innovation; how knowledge is produced and reproduced; the sources of innovation ; the role of knowledge in a dynamic innovative economy; the contribution of innovation to economic growth and development.

ECON 424 Contemporary Issues of Economic Theory (3 0 3)
This course revolves around current debates in economic theory; economics and rationality, decision making under uncertainity, asymmetric information, contents and discontents of globalization, institutionalists, green economy, neo-keynesian economics, critics of assumptions and applications of neo-liberal economy, new approaches in economic theory.

ECON 426 Introduction to Game Theory (3 0 3)
Solution concepts; dominant strategy equilibrium, iterated dominant strategy equilibrium, Nash equilibrium, focal point equilibrium and evolutionary equilibrium; fundamental dynamic game solution techniques; Nash equilibrium and backwards induction, subgames and subgame perfect equilibrium; uncertainty; exogenous uncertainty in static games, exogenous, uncertainty in dynamic games, endogenous uncertainty in static games.

SOC 102 Introduction to Sociology (303)
Introduction to the prominent approaches, newly emerging perspectives and basic concepts in sociology; the elements, problems and benefits of the sociological perspective; an overview of development of sociology in Turkey; the basics of sociological investigation; society and culture; process of socialization; family and its patterns of change; economy, consumption and work; social stratification and mobility; analysis of the causes of social change, modernity and post-modernity.

STAT 201 Statistics I (303)
The scope of statistics; presentation and analysis of data; summary statistics and elements of explanatory data analysis; probability, random variables, distributions, some probability distributions; binomial, Poisson, hyper-geometric, normal and exponential distributions, sampling distributions; central limit theorem; the law of large numbers; T, F, chi-square distributions; estimation methods.

STAT 202 Statistics II (303)
Hypothesis testing; small and large samples; confidence intervals; analysis of variance; linear regression and correlation, multiple regression and tests; non – parametric methods; statistical decision making; index numbers.
